Australia needs Biofuels; as well as reducing our dependence on dwindling crude oil and gas reserves, their production and usage will create jobs in rural and regional Australia, contribute to economic growth - primarily in regional centres, and drastically reduce transport-related Greenhouse gas emissions. Growing our own fuel is also very good for our balance of payments.

SAFF initially conducted trials in consultation with the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) testing the blending properties of canola oil with diesel. In 1999 our Biofuel consultant, Mike Jureidini (an experienced biochemist) began producing high-grade Biodiesel for use in a small fleet of vehicles, using waste cooking oil as his feedstock. Since then SAFF has designed and built a continuous flow Biodiesel processor, and is producing Biodiesel for distribution through its network. In addition SAFF distributes Biodiesel that is produced interstate.

What is Biodiesel?
 

Biodiesel is a 100% renewable replacement / substitute for traditional petroleum diesel fuel, which can be made in Australia from canola or any plant or animal oil and alcohol and is suitable for use in most diesel engines without modification. Its use results in less engine wear, produces negligible Greenhouse gas emissions and significantly reduces the level of pollutants in exhaust emissions.

Biodiesel has been used extensively in Europe and USA for over 10 years and has proven itself to be a superior diesel fuel.
